What Exactly is the Vernal Equinox? Spring Begins March 19th!

The 1st Day of Spring is Thursday, March 19th!

The Vernal Equinox is one of two times each year when the Sun’s position results in nearly equal lengths of day and night across the globe. During this astronomical event, the Sun rises due east and sets due west, shining directly over the Earth’s equator. [almanac.com]

In the Northern Hemisphere, the vernal (or spring) equinox marks the official start of spring, signaling longer days, warmer temperatures, and the return of blooming landscapes. In 2026, the equinox occurs on March 19, which is why spring officially begins on that date. [starwalk.space]

After the vernal equinox, daylight hours continue to grow longer each day until the summer solstice in June, when we experience the longest day of the year.
