Summer’s here, and that means it’s time to head outside and soak up the sun, and we all know the basics to sun safety. To prevent sunburn, you have to apply and reapply sunscreen all day long if you want to keep your skin looking healthy and minimize your risk of skin cancer. But despite our best efforts, sunburns happen. Thankfully, there are ways to ease your discomfort:

Aloe Vera is your Friend

Use lotions that contain aloe vera to soothe

and moisturize sunburnt skin.

Some aloe products contain lidocaine, an anesthetic that can help relieve the pain. Says the WebMd.

Hydrocortisone Creams

Topical over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone cream may help relieve sunburn pain, itch, and swelling, says the Mayo Clinic.

Cool Off with Tea

It is often recommended to apply cooled green or black tea to the skin to soothe sunburns.

Or use cool, not cold, milk.

Avoid More Sun

It goes without saying but you should avoid more sun exposure while your skin heals from the sunburn.
